2.2 Grade School Program (6 to 12 years old)
The Grade School Department is divided into two (2) levels: Primary corresponds to Grades 1, 2, and 3. This level consists of
children aged 6 to 9 years old.
Intermediate corresponds to Grades 4, 5, and 6. This level consists of children aged 9 to 12 years old.
The Cosmic Curriculum of the Grade School follows Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy of helping the child to realize he is part of the universe and he has a special role to play in it. It teaches the child to appreciate its creation—from the atom, plants, and animals to the coming of man. It also teaches them the universal responsibility of mankind, which is to care for life.
Academic Subjects
Language develops the child’s competence in communication. It follows the learning formula summarized in the acronym GROW: grammar, reading, orals, and writing. However, the school follows the psychological flow of the development of the child’s language skill, which starts with orals, writing, reading, and grammar.
Filipino focuses on developing strong citizens of our nation through balarila, kwento, and tula. This subject strengthens the students’ love for the country as they learn about the lives of early Filipinos and our national heroes. They also read stories through which they learn of our Filipino traits and values that make us unique as a people.
Mathematics teaches the basic concepts and rules governing its four fundamental operations. Lessons are reinforced with Montessori materials such as the Stamp Game, Bead Frame, Checker Board, Decanomial Box, Bank Game, and Jumbo Decimal Box. Basic concepts lead to the study of divisibility, fractions, commission, interest, systems of measurement, extraction of square, cube roots, and algebra.
