CHAPTER – 07
Joint Products and by Products
The output emerging out of a process, can be classified into Joint Products and
By Products. The production of By Product is incidental. Joint Products have high
market value and By Products have low market value.
Example: In a sugar industry, sugar is main product and molasses is by product.
When an input is fed into a process, it emerges out as an output. That output can
be a Joint Products or By Products. Those products can be either sold at split off point or
can be further processed and sold to yield higher market value. Such further processing
will also involve cost.
