Quantitative Data Analysis
                                              Simply Explained Using SPSS

                               Coefficient of Determination

                                                                   2
               1. Coefficient of Determination is simply R square (r ). It tells
how much of the variation in the dependent variable, Y is
due to change in the independent variable, X.
                                                2
               2. For example, If r = 0.80thenr = 0.64
                       a. Therefore, 64% of the variation in Y is associated
with the change in X or
                       b. 36% of variation is Y is due to other factors

                              Simple Regression Example #1

Hours of Sleep and Level of Stress

A researcher is interested to know, is the number of hours a person
sleep influence his/her stress level? The researcher wants to know
to find is the number of sleeping hours can significantly predict
stress level of person? He collected data from five healthy
participants. Data is given in below table.

                                       Sleep (X) Stress (Y)

                                       7 3

                                       7 4

                                       8 2
