oday marks a milestone in your life. I am so proud of you for all
Tthat you have accomplished. It has been a long journey but with
perseverance and determination, you have made it to this day.
I challenge you to take what you have learned in the college and go
out from this place with passion; with a driven determination to use
your knowledge and your skills and your role as a nurse – a powerful
and privileged role – to make a difference; a difference to the lives of
every single patient you meet. You have been equipped with knowl-
edge and skills and you are now graduating as a competent nurse
ready to change the world.
Aim to be detailed oriented and thorough in everything you do. The
details do matter in life, and especially in nursing. Look up every
medication you don’t know, double-check your calculations, read the Mr. Richard Korgoren
policy and procedure manual, be systematic in your assessments and Head of Nursing Department
resist the urge to skip a step because you’re having a busy day. You
will be the nurse that picks up on a subtle change that saves a life.
