Top: Station Fire Service. A Crossley fire engine and crew - often needed with the many flying accidents of the early 'twenties. This photograph is dated 1921.
Left: One of the three types to equip the College when it opened in 1920, the Bristol Fighter, or 'Brisfit' as it became known, was operated by B Flight. Over three thousand of the type had been built for the flying services during the Great War and production continued for the post war RAF, not ending until 1926. The peace-time air force used the Bristol Fighter for Army Co-operation duties and as a dual control trainer at Cranwell and with the University Air Squadrons. The Brisfit was superseded by the Armstrong Whitworth Atlas in 1930. F4278, pictured here, was the personal mount of the Commandant, Air Commodore Longcroft.
