Above: DH 9A H3557 of A Flight sports a two colour fuselage band - could this be the initial use of the light blue/dark blue fuselage and wing marking that was to become standard to Cranwell aircraft in later years?
Right: The Station Church. The first church services were held in the gymnasium on the edge of the South airfield. Although still used for its original purposes during the week this was the first Church of St Michael and All Angels at Cranwell. When the College was founded it was necessary to find larger accommodation. A hangar on the North airfield was converted to become the church as seen in the photograph. Many aircraft parts became features of the church, the lights and altar fittings were made from propellers and the font incorporated aero-
engine cylinder heads supported by sections of propeller. Many items were transferred from the old hangar church when the new Church of St Michael and All Angels was dedicated on 1st June 1962.
Below: B Flight on parade. The Avro 504Ks of B Flight, together with both ground and air crews, line up for an unspecified parade in 1921.
