Above: Cadets watch an instructor attaching 20Ib Cooper bombs to the underwing racks of Hawker Audax K4391. The Cooper bomb had appeared in 1917 and was still in use up to the outbreak of World War II. Audax K4391 eventually crashed attempting a forced landing near Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, on the 9th December 1939.
Left: Instructor and pupil prepare for a night training flight in Hawker Hart Trainer K3754. Following the Munich crisis of 1938 training aircraft lost their overall silver finish and took on a more warlike look with upper surfaces painted in green and brown camouflage finish, and yellow lower and under surfaces.
