Top left: Main variant of the Harvard used by Flying Training Command post-war was the 11B. 'AN' of Cranwell's 19 FTS, was photographed in 1946, still in the all-yellow scheme. A four-letter code system (for training aircraft plus those of RAF Reserve Command) was introduced that same year, and used until 1951. RAF Museum P7404 via Bill Taylor.
Top right: The Percival Prentice superseded the veteran Tiger Moth as the RAF's basic trainer late in 1947. In July 1948 it was introduced into service at Cranwell and equipped the two flights of 'A' Squadron of the flying school. This photograph of VS284 is dated 1948. R Sturtivant.
Bottom: As early as 1941, Avro Ansons were used at Cranwell by No.3 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit. In April 1947, when the RAF College was officially reformed as an independent unit, instead of a combined College/FT$, the flying wing was reorganised into three flights, one of which ('C' Flight) was equipped with Ansons for navigational training. The post war four-letter coding is again visible, 'FA' was allocated to 19 FTS from 1946 to 1947 thereafter it denoted RAF College until 1951. 'GA' are the individual aircraft code letters.
