With the threat of imminent invasion, airfields began to develop defence systems to combat possible ground and air attack. This high level aerial photograph of Cranwell, allegedly dated 13th June 1940, has been overmarked with the positions of the various measures taken to defend the airfield. What appear to be several Airspeed Horsa assault gliders parked outside
the North airfield centre hangars, raises a doubt as to the correct date of the photograph.
