Above: Flying training at Cranwell became all-jet in 1961 when the Jet Provost replaced both the piston Provost and the Chipmunk in the basic training role. Pupil pilots were now able to receive the whole of their training on jet types. Initially, T.3 and T.4 variants equipped the School. Three T.3s, XN496 '31 ', XN495 '34' and XM455 '16', are seen here in the very early silver scheme with day-glo orange areas on nose, tip-tanks and rear fuselage. Only '16' has had the College Coat of Arms super- imposed on the white disc on its upper forward fuselage.
Centre right: This photograph, taken in 1968, shows Jet Provost T.4 XP559 '74' in the silver scheme with high visibility day-glo red strips on the nose, tip tanks and rear fuselage. In the early 1970s the T.4s were replaced by the improved and pressurised T.5s . MAP.
Top right: For many years the RAF College Glider Flight has operated a number of craft, usually from the North airfield site. Types used by the Flight, which provided Air Experience for Officer Cadets of the RAF College, have included Kirby Cadets, Slingsby Prefects and Sedberghs. They have normally worn full college markings, such as on this Sedbergh TX.1 WG498, photographed in October 1975. MAP
Right: Hawker Siddeley HS.125 Dominies of the former RAF College of Air Warfare at Manby moved to Cranwell in January 1974 when the CAW became the Department of Air Warfare of the RAF College. They wore a stylised version of the Cranwell blue band, as seen on XS733 in March 1976. In early 1978 the Dominies were passed to 6 FTS at Finningley, Yorkshire. MAP
