Cranwell in Lincolnshire has been associated with aeroplanes and aviation since late 1915. This.book traces thestory of the historical station using 130 photographs and extended captions, ranging from the early days of HMS Daedalus, RNAS right up to the present day.
The name Cranwell tends to be associated with the Royal Air Force College, but many other units have been based there during the airfield's lifetime.
The photographs are mainly from the College Library collection and in many cases have not previously been seen in print. These include scenes of the North and South airfields under construction, plus the Airship station. Also included are based aircraft, and some of the interesting visiting types and personalities of the times.
The contents will provoke nostalgia amongst those many people who served at Cranwell, as well as providing useful information for historians. It will also appeal to visitors to the Cranwell Aviation Heritage Centre, situated one mile south east of the airfield.
