This is what most of them look like for


                                         measuring vibrations.


                                         A special cable is attached to the device


                                         which feeds into a charge amplifier.

                                          Note the input connector for the


                                          accelerometer.


                                          You can vary the gain and the filtering


                                          characteristics of the device.



                                          Needed because the accelerometer

                                          will only operate in a linear fashion


                                          over a limited frequency range.


                                                              Being a mechanical


                                                              structure, it has its own


                                                              resonance.


                                                              The accelerometer is


                                                              operated well away from

                                                              the resonance as you can


        see in the above diagram.
