multiple rescuers available it is recommended that a rotational change between rescuers delivering compressions occur at intervals of 2 minutes. This will reduce fatigue for the rescuers and provide more effective compressions increasing the possibility of a favorable outcome.
Duration of CPR
Once CPR is commenced it should only be stopped in the following circumstances.
• The casualty recovers.
• Another trained First Aider takes over.
• Y ou handover to Medical Professionals
• Y ou are physically incapable of continuing.
What if the Casualty Recovers?
Whilst CPR alone will not restore a normal cardiac rhythm, due to varied other circumstances the casualty may begin to show signs of recovery during CPR. The likelihood of recovery increases when combining CPR with Defibrillation.
Signs of recovery are:
• The casualty begins to breathe normally.
• The casualty regains consciousness.
If the casualty shows signs of recovery place them in the recovery position and monitor their vital signs closely.
