The introduction of a proposed social welfare reform for SNAP requires that recipients of the program validate employment to continue to receive benefits. Earning too much can disqualify you. Balancing the cost of living with- out benefiting from social welfare could put you at the poverty line. One catastrophic event, such as the loss of a job, a hospital bill, or car repairs could destroy a family financially.
Still an Issue
In the end, everyone has an opportunity for change. Rea- sonable opportunity should not be assumed. Those living at a lower economic status may not be in a position to create change at the government level. But Americans continue to fight for fair wages and equal treatment. The number of men and women working full-time, year-round increased by 1.4 million and 1.0 million, respectively, between 2016 and 2017. A number powerful enough to consider hope.
