Sipping at home: May featured wine for retail
‘ AN IRON FIST IN A VELVET GLOVE”
Last month, we featured the wines of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars during one of our wine din- ners. One of the wines poured during dinner that was a hands-down crowd pleaser was
their Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine combines the best fruit from some of the finest vineyards in Napa Valley with estate-grown fruit. This allows a true expression of the regional character of The Valley, while still staying with- in the signature style of Stag’s Leap. And this wine exemplifies the Stag’s Leap style - lush fruit balanced by structure and elegance – the iron fist in a velvet glove.
The 2016 vintage of Artemis does not let us down. Aromas of dark berries, raspberry tart, and nutmeg surround the round tannin and plush mouthfeel. The aromas are mirrored on the palate and linger through an enjoyable fin- ish. We served this wine with a grilled Merguez sausage accompanied by balsamic-glazed cipollini onions and herb-roasted potatoes. The pairing was a match made in culinary heaven, as the rustic earthiness of the food was actually complemented in contrast by the lush, stylish wine.
The goal at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars is to cre- ate wines of classic beauty – wines with bal- ance, complexity and harmony – the artful bal- ance between ripeness and restraint, softness and structure, that yields Napa Valley wines of exceptional beauty and long life. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, notably known for being the win- ery that won the Cabernet Sauvignon competi- tion in the 1976 Judgment of Paris, was found- ed in 1970, and is considered a Napa Valley first-growth estate.
