“We have to honor the places we’ve been”
If there is one thing you’ll notice about the subject of these
works is the buildings. I created these portraits of locations
that have been abandoned. People create these structures
and they get used until one day they are left, in too poor
condition, for us to inhabit. Fortunately, other things start to
live there. Whether it be physical or something we can not
understand. An energy resides in these places. They might
make you feel nostalgic. Until one day, it’s taken down and
changed into something new or leveled. The work might
take you places with the doors and windows like portals. In
some ways the adventure is in the details.
Allison Pillari is a Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts alumni
working in a variety of mediums with a strong focus on
architecture and landscape.
