artist statement
Darrell is a local artist, residing in New London County.
He has shown selected works in the past at various
locations in CT and Provincetown, MA.
He enjoys working with bright colors and contrast.
His influences come from many
19th-century artists such as Van Gogh.
Darrell began drawing at an early age.
Academically, his artistic skills were developed
at Lincoln High School in Lake City, MN,
with the art instructor Mr. Norton,
where he studied various mediums.
After graduation, Darrell began his career in the military.
His professional career in Connecticut involved
working and caring for special needs individuals.
During a return trip to MN with Angelo,
Darrell’s husband, some earlier pieces of his art were on
display at his parents’ home. Following that trip, Angelo,
family, and friends supported Darrell’s return to creating
works of art. He then attended classes at Tracy Art Center in
Old Saybrook, CT and University of CT Avery Point.
Since his retirement in 2020, he began his career of choice
as an artist.
Darrell employs a unique style of painting on
wooden panels versus canvas.
This is done for a multitude of reasons.
