artist statement
A celebrated artist, born in Jamaica, John has traveled through
vastly diverse landscapes, both geographic and artistic,
to carve out his unique space in the art world.
John draws inspiration from rich memories of his past and the
cultural traditions that enveloped his upbringing. His work,
often utilizing wood and metal welding casting, embodies
a fusion of these diverse elements. His process is deeply
conceptual, inviting the viewer to engage with his
art on a level that evokes personal memory and interpretation.
His influences are as varied as his mediums, ranging from Picasso
and David Smith to the Earth Art Movement and contemporary
conceptualists. These influnces have melded to shape a
technique that his uniquely his own, instilled with a sense of cultural
identity and a desire to push the boundaries of traditional form.
The result is a harmonius fusion of textures, colors, and forms that
transports the viewer into unexplored realms of imagination.
John’s work is not just an artistic endeavor, but a reflection
of his values and beliefs.
John is associated with the Art Guild
in Connecticut and has shown his work in several
notable venues. Recently his art was shown at the
Naumann Gallery and multipe group exhibitions
in libraries throughout Connecticut.
