WELCOME TO THE 2018/19 BCA COUNCIL
THE BCA IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THE OFFICIAL COUNCIL FOR THE 2018/19 TERM:
PRESIDENT – ALISTER MCDERMOTT, DIRECTOR MCDERMOTT COACHLINES
Alister comes from a family business that has been in the bus and coach industry for the last 50 years. He is part of the second generation running the business from their Invercargill and Winton bases, where the business is involved in the school, charter and tour markets.
Alister has been involved in the indus-
try since 1977 and has been a BCA
Council member since 2006. In 2012, Alister served as the BCA Vice President and has been the President since 2016. As President he is passionate about dealing with issues that a ect the industry and enjoys lobbying for better outcomes from government and other organisations. e industry has seen major changes in the last few years with PTOM tendering. Alister is looking forward to guide the industry through the next stage of tendering for school bus services with the Ministry of Education.
SHERYLL OTWAY - GENERAL MANAGER HOWICK & EASTERN BUSES, REESBY ROTORUA
During her last term, Sheryll served
as the Vice President of the BCA
Council.
Sheryll has 20 years of experience
in the industry, but she notes that
this has not dimmed her passion for
the day-to-day challenges it brings.
Sheryll believes that her expertise
from Finance, HR and Operations to
GM have provided a solid base to help steer the Association and the industry in the right direction. Sheryll is proud to be associ- ated with such a vibrant and exciting industry and notes that the increasing changes in legislation and Vehicle Quality Standards demand a stronger sense of partnership. Sheryll is looking forward to continuing working towards this by being an active member of the BCA Council.
CRAIG WORTH - COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR, GO BUS
Go Bus used to be a little com- pany formed through the merger of Simpsons, Hodgsons and Blue Worth buses but has grown rapidly to become a major player in the New Zealand Bus Industry. Craig is the ‘wise owl’ and his experience guides and supports the Go Bus senior man- agement team. Go Bus today employs over 2,200 people and has a eet of over 1700 vehicles.
Craig served as the BCA Council
President from 2001 to 2004. is was a time of major transition not only for the BCA, but also the industry. Craig has a passion and empathy for the bus and coach industry and the people involved with it, and looks forward to continuing to serve the Council.
ROBERT INWARDS - MANAGING DIRECTOR, BIRKENHEAD TRANSPORT LTD
Birkenhead Transport Ltd is a fam- ily owned business, rst established by Robert’s grandfather in 1933. Birkenhead currently has over 90 buses and is mainly involved in the urban scene in Auckland.
Robert has been in the industry for
over 42 years and a Council Member
of the BCA for many years. Robert
has been a long-standing member of
the Urban Committee and during his
most recent term as Councillor was a
member of the Executive Committee.
He is excited to continue as a Council member for another term.
LYNDON LEABOURN - GENERAL MANAGER, LEABOURN PASSENGER SERVICE
Leabourn Passenger Service is a family business located in lower Northland. e business provides a range of services, predominantly school transport, complimented by a strong charter and tour business. Lyndon has been on the BCA Council for 10 years and has made valuable contribution to the Council and sub- committees over this time. For the last six years, Lyndon has also been the BCA representative on the MITO Board of Directors.
Lyndon is looking forward to another term on Council and hopes to provide a voice for small to medium-sized operators. Lyndon contributes to the Council with his strong understanding of school transport, good nancial leadership and an understanding of oper- ating a passenger transport business outside the larger metropoli- tan cities and the challenges this brings to operators.
PAUL MCNOE - CHIEF EXECUTIVE, RED BUS
Christchurch’s Red Bus employs approximately 260 sta and has 150 buses and coaches in urban passen- ger transport, charter and tour.
Paul has extensive experience in
the industry. Some of his previ-
ous roles include working for the
Christchurch Transport Board as
an Engineering Services Manager,
for the Christchurch City Council
in eet leasing, management and
maintenance, and for City Care as the
National Facilities Services and Divisional Manager. Paul has also previously been on the BCA Council for ve years, including two as Vice President, and is excited to return.
