THE NEW CHAIRMAN
The Chairman Speaks
am honoured to be the new chairman of the Forty Club. I certainly hope that I will continue the great work of my predecessors.
The club has certainly evolved since I rst joined in 1994. I cannot imagine what Henry Grierson would have made of What’s App groups, Zoom calls and real time scoring on a tablet. Nevertheless, however much things change, some things stay the same.
Our purpose “To inspire cricketers to enjoy a lifelong love of cricket” would resonate with our founder. No more so than in the past season when despite Covid we managed to play 56 matches and give 274 players the opportunity to play and enjoy the occasion.
I see my role as chairman to facilitate our members to play, enjoy and help others to enjoy and inspire a lifelong love of cricket. At the time of writing, we do not know what season 2021 will bring. We have put together a full xture list but already a couple of schools have withdrawn citing pressure of mock exams and teachers having to grade pupils’ work. It is important that we as a club respect the issues of the day but emphasise how we can balance the pressure by providing enjoyable diversions through competition and contribution.
May I wish all Forty Club members good health and cricketing enjoyment whenever it comes.
I
