XL GOLFING SOCIETY
Peter Crowcroft
O bviously the 2020 Golf Season was hit hard by the pandemic, as with
all other sports. However for a
“wandering gol ng society” such
as ours, it was doubly painful because even when golf re-started, we – as a visiting team
- were not initially to play matches at any clubs. Thankfully as the weeks wore on, we managed to play 5 xtures and we need to thank the Match Managers, XLGS Members and our`opponents for their enthusiasm to get this much golf played in the circumstances.
I seem to have seen David Lancaster and Stuart Bowden more this summer via Zoom rather than on the golf course and their hard work towards designing and implementing our new Website, alongside Bill John, deserves rec- ognition as I’m sure they would have much preferred to be on the fairways.
29 members have left us and we have just
2 new additions. It is apparent that we tend to recruit new members either from the opposition at the matches we play or via
an introduction from one of our members. With so few matches played the small number of new recruits is explained.
We have made a signi cant nancial commit- ment to pay for the design and implementation of our new and exciting web site which will herald electronic retention of data and match management facilities. We will move away from paper and streamline our admin. Members will receive guidance about access and use of the site when the annual booklet is sent out.
I would urge all members to visit the website as I believe this will prove to be the foundation for the management and administration of the society going forward.
Doug Adams will continue as Captain for the coming season and I look forward to seeing him and other familiar faces in a (hopefully) full xture list in 2021.
