           MATTHEW MARK LUKE JOHN

the council, sought • for • false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; [b]ut found none: [Y]ea
though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. • For many bare false witness against him, but
their witness agreed not together. • At the last • there {arose / came} • certain, • two false witnesses, •
and bare false witness against him, saying, We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made

with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. • And said, This fellow said, I
am able to destroy the temple of God and build it in three days. • But neither so did their witness agree
together. • And the high priest arose, and • stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest
thou nothing? [W]hat is it which these witness against thee? But he held his peace, and answered

nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
       • But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living
God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: • I
am: • [N]evertheless I say unto you, Hereafter, shall you see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of
power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath
spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? [B]ehold, now ye have heard {his / the} •

blasphemy. What think ye? They answered • and they all condemned him • and said, He is guilty of
death. Then • some began to spit {on him, / in his face,} • and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to
say unto him, Prophesy: [A]nd the {servants / others} {smote / did strike} him with the palms of their

hands. • Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, [w]ho is he that smote thee?

             ¶ Now • as Peter {was / sat} without • beneath in the palace, there cometh {one of the maids / a
certain maid / a damsel} • of the high priest: • [A]nd came unto him, • beheld him as he sat by the fire, •
[a]nd Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. • And when she saw Peter warming himself, she •

earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. • [S]aying, Thou also was with Jesus •
of Nazareth of Galilee. • They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? • And he
denied him, • before them all, saying, • Woman I know him not. • I know not • neither understand I what
thou sayest. • And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. And • another maid • saw him again,
