"So benefits will not be available for any condition(s) as defined in the policy,
until 48 months of continuous coverage have elapsed, since inception of the
first policy with the insurer. So, in essence, the maximum look back period/
waiting period of covering pre-existing diseases is 48 months. Insurance
companies can reduce the waiting period, but cannot enhance it.
(e) Renewability of health insurance policy - Regulator in consultation with the
industry came up with landmark circular on Renewability of Health Insurance
policies which has many provisions and lay emphasis on adequate disclosures,
and promoting transparency and fair treatment for policyholders. These circulars
help the policyholders to trust the insurance companies.
