 Coochiemudlo Island’s Emerald Fringe

is important in demonstrating the pattern
of Queensland history as an early
example of the outcome of the Surveyor
General’s 1878 directions to surveyors
requiring a reserve or esplanade along
the sea coast where a road was

the place is practicable. This reserve established
important in initially in 1885 around the entire island
demonstrating
the evolution or is significant historically because it is
pattern of intact, publically owned and is zoned for
Queensland’s
history conservation, open space and road
reserve purposes. It remains a fine
example of such esplanade reserves.

 The Emerald Fringe is important in
illustrating the evolution of island tourism
