Michelle says the new head honcho has “brought with him a new way of working, a new vision that emphasises partnerships, which strives to instill the view that each person is a partner of the business.”
It’s the sort of buy-in urging increasing levels of commitment from the ‘Mixologists of Technology’ - as the other slogan states – for this most crucial function within the business.
Imagine, for a minute, what would happen if the software that does your invoicing during this, the busiest time of the year, is down. Also, imagine email or internet services being down for a day.
“We live in such a data driven and inter-connected world that many of us cannot function without these services. Business would crawl to a standstill ... That is how critical our support is to the business,” Michelle explained. “Everything runs on the network.”
As a consequence, IT experts must constantly ensure that their support service is always up and running. So if there’s a report or review to solve any IT issue, they’re the first line of contact.
Michelle also noted that the team is constantly seeking ways to improve business processes through creativity
of functions. Literally, it is the company’s heartbeat.
“Our department is a critical support function. Infor- mation technology underpins everything that is done in business today,” shared Michelle Bispott, Senior IT Manager, J. Wray & Nephew Limited.
The wide range of services provided include desktop computing, network connections across multiple sites, email services, internet services, business management software support, application development and more.
“We do not necessarily create all these products, services and applications,” pointed out Michelle, whose IT team is the second largest in the organi- zation. “However, we are the custodian of these services and our ultimate responsibility is to ensure that these services are provided on-time and in full with the highest level of customer service and quality,”
Her team, like the range of products, is Jamaica-based and utilizes two slogans that to a large extent specify their purpose. ‘One IT, Global IT’,
