diagrams and literature, plus field stations to view the whole rum-making process from the ‘cane to the cup’. Embodied amidst the renovations to the attraction, is a retail store, where visitors get the opportunity to whet their appetite by indulging in their favourite Appleton Estate memorabilia.
The value of the investment multiplies significantly by virtue of benefits to be accrued through tourism and the society at large with employment, agriculture and the craft business.
“The renovation of this world-renowned property is well-needed as Gruppo Campari seeks to grow the Appleton brand globally, creating several opportunities along the way for Brand Jamaica,” outlined Lawrence. “So there is a synergy that we want to exploit.”
The project received the blessing of Karl Samuda, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and
Fisheries and Derrick Sangster, Mayor of Black River. “This will significantly strengthen the tourism product,” said Samuda.
“I am also heartened by the fact that the Rum Tour facility will have spin-offs for the communities. This is a big investment and one which shows commitment and love for our country.”
Sangster noted that the development would bring tremendous economic benefits to the Appleton Estate area of Siloah and its wider environs. “Tourism on the south coast will now have a world class attraction that will draw a lot of visitors to this region,” Sangster pointed out. “There will certainly be a huge trick- le-down benefit for all the communities.”
The facility was closed for renovation in November 2016 and had a grand re-opening on January 18, 2018.
