APOLLITICAL PENCE

Matt and Bendi Dunn had to stay up late the night of Dec. 12, but it was worth it. They had a barrel horse at the National Finals Rodeo
and Apollitical Pence in the $600,000 Champion of Champions-G1 at Los Alamitos. Both won, and after that, sleep didn’t seem as important.
“It was 11:16 our time (in Oklahoma), and then the race got delayed a little bit,” said Matt.
The lateness was due to the race being on Pacific time in California. Then post time had to be pushed back even more when Bos Time Machine broke through the gate before the start. Outrider Keith Craigmyle quickly caught the gelding, and the gate crew reloaded him while Apollitical Pence and the others stood quietly.
With jockey Raul Valenzuela aboard, Apollitical Pence broke well. Despite undergoing a little bit of bumping early, he got into the race immediately, dueling with three horses to his inside. A couple of others on the outside closed ground, but Apollitical Pence held everyone off to win by a neck in :21.442 for 440 yards.
