Salomé Gallegos Classic
ZE QUEEN
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
In the eighth race on Nov. 8, this classic was contested in honor of Quarter Horse horse breeder Salomé Gallegos Fernández. It was restricted to two year olds bred in Mexico which participated in the Garañones Futurity qualifying races and whose trial times placed them from 61st to 100th place in the general table; and they also paid a $10,000 pesos (approximately US $480) registration.
In trial 2 on Oct. 18, Ze Queen finished sixth in :15.692, which placed him 89th overall, far from most expectations. However, having already made the decision to run in the Salomé Gallegos Classic, he was entered in a race on Oct. 25, where he covered the 300 yards in :15.47 seconds in third place; this was a better but insufficient performance to be among the favorites in this classic two weeks later.
The race flowed clearly from the opening the gates to the crossing of the finish line. Ze Queen (#4) broke first with great determina- tion under the guidance of Yair Daniel Báez Soto. To his left he was accompanied for an instant by Chinto Solo (#1) and in the final yards Shalala Horse (#10) closed strong, but he was 1-length behind the bay, which with this
triumph broke his maiden and added the first classic to his record in three official starts; his time was :15.41 (SI 84).
Bred by Rancho Hacienda Santiago, Ze Queen is the son of the stallion Azyoucansee and out of the
mare Fit To Be Queen (by
Strawfly Special). At the 2019 Select Yearling Auction he
was listed at $280,000 pesos ($13,865 US), being acquired by Gerardo Orantes Coutiño for Rancho Santa Rosa Chiapas, his current owner. A short time later, the Azyoucansee stallion became the property of the lat- ter, where he stands.
José Miguel González
Osorio is the young trainer
responsible for his race preparation, now with the aim of placing him among the 10 finalists in the Select Auction Futurity-RG3, in the trials sched- uled for Nov. 27 and 29 at a distance of 350 yards.
The prize for this classic was $177,500 pesos (approximately $8,515), of which 50% was credited to the winner’s account.
In second finished Shalala Horse (Sea Horse Corona–Shalala B) under the command of Aarón Adrián Gómez. She was bred by Salomé Gallegos, owned by Cuadra Strategos
and trained by Liderme René Gómez Díaz.
The sorrel colt Chinto Solo placed third directed by Rosalino Alcudia. He is a son of Senior Solo and out of Carly Cartel, was bred by Cuadra La Presita, owned by Cuadra Guillén and trained by Gregorio Alberto Razo Parra.
Followed by Espejo Valiente Haul (Carnegie Haul–Bellas Shine), Adios Jabuti (Jabuti Eagle–Adios
Sweet Choice), Succesor Horse (Sea Horse Corona–C Me Zoom), Danny Bell DK (Danny Cartel–Oughter BN Boots), N Gucci Shoes (Native Cartel–Red Gucci Shoes), BR Santa (Southern Corona–Perrys Winner) & Chepina N Dash (Texas Kool– Tapatia Dash).
