Chirina Glorys Classic
KENIAS BLACK PATRIOT
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
The classic dedicated to Champion Chirina Glorys took place on April 4 during the Hipodromo de las Americas meet, and is the only stakes for fillies and mares three years and older born in Mexico or any other country. With 10 participants, Pantera Down Dash was the only national bred horse while the other nine were bred in the United States. A purse
of $377,000 pesos ($18,287 approx. U.S.) was contested at a distance of 350 yards.
The Gavilanes Cuadra and Cartas Blancas Cuadra enrolled their two best horses in this race. Kenias Black Patriot departed very strongly
inward and made contact with Carters Calyx, but immediately straightened the way and promptly put herself at the head of the group of runners without much demand from her rider, Paul Osvaldo Rodríguez. It was only until the final yards that she had to duel with Hiclass Patriot, who was just 1/2-length behind and gaining on the leader. Kenias Black Patriot completed the 350 yards in :17.07, achieving a career best 97 speed index.
Both Kenias Black Patriot and Hiclass Patriot belong to the Gavilanes Cuadra, and with such an arrival at the finish line they finished 1-2 for the barn located in the State of Tamaulipas. They also share parental genes, as they are both daughters of Jet Black Patriot. On
the maternal side, the winner is the daughter of mare Ms Janas Perry (by Mr Jess Perry).
In her previous outing, and her first in Mexico, Kenias Black Patriot easily won the Maiden Stakes under the direction of jockey Rosalino Alcudia at the same distance in :17.10, very consistent with those obtained in the Chirina Glorys Classic.
The winning team was represented by trainer Rubén Romo García and jockey Paul Osvaldo Rodríguez García. Romo commented that the filly debuted in 2019 at Delta Downs, but rested for the rest of the year. She returned in 2020 to train at the facility in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, showing outstanding qualities,
so it was decided to send her to race at the Hipodromo de las Americas where she has won two stakes.
She is a very burly and strong filly, who
on this occasion was exhausted by the effort, returning very slowly with her rider once the race was over. She will certainly continue to be the leader in stakes competition for older horses the remainder of the season.
For now, her record is 2-0-1 in 4 outings at the track, with cumulative win- nings of $387,455 pesos.
Winner of the Gabriel Cue Sacre Classic in 2019,
the mare Hiclass Patriot (Jet Black Patriot-Hiclass Quick, Royal Quick Dash) captured second place in the arrival, ridden by Heriberto Camacho Sotelo for owner Cuadra Los Gavilanes where she is trained
by Rubén Romo García.
The third place was for Reacher 16
(Inseperable-Tinys Corona Queen, Corona Cartel), under the direction of Martín Hernández Bautista, who in the last minute replaced Israel Dominguez. She belongs to Cuadra Victoria MC and is trained by José Ravel Baltazar Aguilar.
Ferarri B (Freighttrain B-Ferarri Fast Prize), Mas Buena (Stel Corona-Plenty Good), Carters Calyx (Carters Cartel-Confidential Run), BV Myheartwillgoon (BV Travelin Soldier-Azoomin Streak), Pantera Down Dash (Aguerrido-La Pantera Gris), Okay Marg Okay (Corona Cartel-Shazooms Doll) and Scholary (TR Dasher-Now You Comeat Noon) com- pleted the order of finish.
