Enrique Carrión Álvarez Classic
BOURBON EAGLE SA
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
The classic dedicated to breeder and horseman Enrique Carrión Alvarez was held on March 21, with the participation of seven runners of three years and older born in Mexico, who
have never won a classic. The purse amount
of $214,000 pesos (approx. $10,345 U.S.)
was integrated. RG Chosen Jewel, owned by Rancho Las Gaviotas was withdrawn.
Except for the late break of SE King Waters (#6), which determined his final result, the race developed cleanly. It was clear from the beginning that Bourbon Eagle SA was going to dominate the field. He broke from the 8-post under jockey Rosalino Alcudia. They traveled the 350 yards, to overcome by 1-length, stop- ping the clock in :17.18 for a 94 speed index.
Raised in the State of Chihuahua, by Loewen Wilhelm, Bourbon Eagle SA is the son of stallion Jabuti Eagle SA out
of the Bourbon Street Dolly mare. As he passed through the ring of the 2018 Select Yearling Sale, he was listed at $235,000 pesos ($12,048), being re-purchased by his
breeder and subsequently acquired for Cuadra López in a private deal. On
his behalf, he began his season as a two year old
in which he came in third in the Select Yearling Sale Futurity Consolation, and he was a finalist in the Mexican Breeders Futurity and the Garañones Futurity Consolation.
As a three year old, he
participated in the trials of
the Mexican Breeders Derby, Garañones Derby and Select Yearling Sale Derby without being able to run for any final; it was for the latter derby that he participated in the name of the Cuadra Tiburón. Trainer Saul Perez Robredo conditioned him.
His race record now stands at at 5-3-3 from 15 starts, this being the first classic to be won, which adds dividends of $107,000
pesos ($ 5,172 approx. U.S.) to his total more than $810,000 pesos.
SF Mr Shoots (Frankie Shoots-SF Miss Assault) was second under José Manuel Cisneros. The
colt owned by the Cuadra Equus was bred by Gregorio Alberto Razo Parra.
Furia Nocturna (The Louisiana Cartel-Red Hot Lass), the group’s veteran, placed third under Paul
Osvaldo Rodríguez García. He belongs to the Cuadra Centenario and is trained by Miguel Angel Hernández García.
CCorona De Dinastia (First Dynasty- Halfpast Aheartbreak), Nastia (Snow On The Moon-Drop Of Corona), One Corona Sweet (Southern Corona-One Sweet Check) and
SE King Waters (Waters Edge-Co Ed Cash Queen) completed the order of finish.
