Refrigerator Stakes-G1
VALIANT TIBERIAS
by Michael Compton
Valiant Tiberias is as classy as they come. The talented and fast gelding has com- peted exclusively in Grade 1 and Grade 2 company this season, and with a dramatic rally in the Refrigerator Stakes-G1 at Lone Star Park on Oct. 25 recorded the second Grade 1 victory of his stellar career.
With Victory Urieta Jr. in the saddle, Valiant Tiberias, who broke tardy from the 1-post, raced near the back of the pack in 11th position early in the 440-yard event. With a
strong rally through the lane, however, the gelding flew
late and gamely ran down the early leader and race favorite near the finish to win by a head. Valiant Tiberias covered the distance in :21.233. Trained by Alonso Neri, Valiant Tiberias earned a 99 speed index.
