AMCCCM Classic
TEMPTOBTHEBEST
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
In the second weekend of races “behind closed doors,” this race was held at 400 yards with only five participants and a purse to be distributed of $236,000
pesos (approximately $11,008). The reunion on the track between Florentines Favorite and Mas Buena motivated the interest of the crowd, because at the beginning of this season the National Championships Day Del Charro Classic and Easily A Possum Classic were contested, with favorable result for Florentines Favorite by small margin over Mas Buena.
The expected duel did not occur, however, because in the game Florentines Favorite (#1)
led decisively on the inner rail until he hit it
and was not able to be controlled by his rider José Manuel Cisneros. The other participants
set out on their way to the finish line, with the overwhelming dominance of Temptobthebest (#2), easily out-performing the group under rider Efraín González. He left Mas Buena in second by 2-lengths, and stopped the timer in :19.27 seconds for a speed index of 101.
The winner is a sorrel gelding raised in the United States by Simmons Ranch. In that country,
he started in four races, of which he triumphed in his trial of Heritage Place Futurity in 2019. He competed in the U.S. until
Oct. 12 of the same year and
was later acquired by Francisco
Santiz and brought to Mexico
for the El Zonte Cuadra,
located in Comitán, Chiapas
State, where he received his
racing preparation from Michel
Alejandro Santos Rodríguez.
Before making his debut
at the Hippodromo de las
Americas, he competed four
unofficial races in Oaxaca
and Chiapas, highlighted by a
victory in a derby in Carriles
San Juan, of Cintalapa, Chiapas, over a distance of 250 rods (228.40 yards) under the guidance of Fortunato Gómez.
His record indicates that he made his debut at the Hipodromo de las Americas on Feb. 9, 2020, in the National Charro Day Championship and
returned the following March 15 for the Easily A Possum Classic. On both occasions he finished
seventh, also competing against the aforementioned Florentines Favorite and Mas Buena.
In this event in the Mexican capital, he was represented by the Cuadra Cartas Blancas and saddled by trainer José Eduardo Baltazar Carmona. With this triumph, his record is 2-1-0 in 8 outings to the track, this being his first stakes won. He is the son of prominent stallion Tempting Dash and out of Thebest Isyet Tocome by Corona Cartel.
His next outing at the track is scheduled for Oct. 25, in the 400-yard José Merced Gómez Orozco Classic.
Let’s remember that the AMCCCCM Classic is the second jewel in the Triple Crown Quarter Mile. The first is the Easily A
