When Ben Brush retired, he was sold to James R. Keene, as a replacement for Domino, who had died prematurely after siring only two foal crops. Ben Brush TB was the leading sire in 1909 and produced the likes of Sweep and Broomstick:

contribution of Ben Brush. Out of Elf by Galliard, Broomstick started in 39 races from two to four, winning 14 with 11 seconds and five thirds. Broomstick was the winner of such stakes as the Travers Stakes, Great American Stakes and the Juvenile Stakes, and had total earnings of $74,730.
Broomstick was a good racehorse and an even better sire. He led the sire list from 1913 to 1915, and was a top ten sire from 1910 to 1927, siring only 280 named foals. He was privately used and did not stand to many outside mares. From the 280 named foals, Broomstick sired 69 stakes winners. This is 25% stakes winners from named foals. The breed average during this time was 3% stakes winners from foals, and
his top runners include Kentucky Derby winner Regret and 2000 Guineas winner in England Sweeper II.
A large part of the Ben Brush influence in the modern Quarter Horse comes from the unraced stallion Top Deck TB who
was bred on the King Ranch at Kingsville, Texas. Top Deck proved to be a great breed- ing stallion despite the fact that he was never able to put together a race record. He sired 219 racing ROM including 3-Time World Champion Go Man Go, 2-Time Champion Rebel Cause, Champion Ridge Butler and Champion Top Ladybug. Top Deck carried the influence of Ben Brush through Broomstick.
Top Deck was also the combination of the blood of Domino and Ben Brush. His Domino breeding came from Peter Pan by Commando by Domino. Top Deck is by Equestrian by Equipoise by Pennant by Peter Pan. The second infusion of Domino came from Wendy, the dam of Chicaro, the broodmare sire of Top Deck. Wendy is by Peter Pan.
This takes us to the Ben Brush blood
in Top Deck’s pedigree. Top Deck is by Equestrian by Equipoise, who is out of Swinging by Broomstick. The dam of Equestrian is Frillette and she is out of Frillery by Broomstick. Chicaro is the sire of
