The Mexican Quarter Horse Association named Maybellina as their 2019 Horse of the Year.

The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) announced Dr. Eleanor Green as the recipient of the 2020 AAVMC Billy E. Hooper Award for Distinguished Service. The award honors those individuals whose leadership and vision have made a significant contribution to academic veterinary medicine and the veterinary profession. Green has been the Carl B. King Dean of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University since 2009 and has served as president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians, and the Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges. Green was recently named a senior advisor and consultant for the Animal Policy Group in Washington, D.C.

The Appaloosa Horse Club announced the 2019 Racing Hall of Fame inductees: Robert Lapp, who served on the ApHC Board of Directors from 1995-2001, including several years as a member of the Executive Race Committee; and The Hooper Honker, a 1975 gelding who won 11 of 13 starts and earned $51,880 on his way to being named the 1977 Champion 2-Year-Old Sprint Gelding and 1978 Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding.

The first recipients of the StallioneSearch Rising Star Awards were announced, an annual program to promote growth in the sport of Quarter Horse racing amongst the younger generation. Champion Hes Relentless (One Famous Eagle-This Dreams Flying, Strawfly Special) is the winner of the 2019 StallioneSearch Rising Star Sire Award. Hes Relentless has stood at Bob Moore Farms in Oklahoma, and has sired the earners of over $2.1 million in 2019. Marcos Carrizales is the winner of the 2019 StallioneSearch Rising Star Trainer Award. Carrizales, trainer of 2019 All
American Futurity winner Mr Jess Jenkins, capped off 2019 with earnings of over $2.2 million. Jesus Ayala is the winner of the 2019 StallioneSearch Rising Star Jockey Award. With earnings of over $1.5 million in 2019, the 25-year-old jockey won 73 times, including Grade 1 victories in races such as the Brad McKinzie Winter Championship and the Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap.

Longtime racing executive Eric Halstrom was named Vice President, General Manager of Indiana Grand Racing & Casino. Halstrom graduated
from the University of Arizona Racetrack Industry Program and has served as vice president of racing at Canterbury Park, vice president and general manager of racing at Fair Grounds, assistant director of racing and Prairie Meadows, and vice president of operations at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.

Charles “Bubba” Cascio and Frank Merrill were inducted into the National Cutting Horse Association Hall of Fame. Cascio is an early pioneer of the NCHA, winning the most cuttings in the shortest amount of time. Former AQHA president Merrill has been a member of the NCHA since 1968, has served as executive committee member, competition committee chair, and Foundation trustee.

The Arizona Quarter Horse Hall of Fame inductees were honored in the clubhouse at Rillito Racetrack following the final race, including Larry Gamez, Vince Guerra, and Howard “Zip” Peterson.

Javier Rosique Leon was elected President
of the Mexican Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association for a two-year term during the association’s general meeting. Rosique, who has been a Quarter Horses breeder for 40 years, is the son of past association president Don Javier Rosique Palavicini.

The Mexican Quarter Horse Association declared their 2019 Champions at a
ceremony recognizing 20 horses and six individuals, including Horse of the Year Maybellina (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Eye Popping, Mr Eye Opener) and AQHA Mexican Champion Lafishingonabugsmoon (Nofishinonafullmoon-A Special Ladybug, My Mr Special Bug).
