FROM THE PRESIDENT
   Dear fellow breeders,
Our annual meeting was held in January
via Zoom due to the pandemic. Our staff did a remarkable job, especially considering that this was the first time they had to handle a virtual meeting on such a large scale. Well done and thank you!
As you know, we conducted elections using mail-in ballots for the first time. The response was really gratifying, specifically because it was the first attempt using this method for voting. I wish we could take credit for our foresight, but without mail-in balloting we would have been unable to hold an annual meeting and election because of the pandemic. Our goal is to increase participation, transparency and engagement by the members by using this method. Thanks to you all for voting.
We had three board members opt to not stand for reelection. Those were Miguel Gallegos, Debra Laney, and Jay Taylor.
We owe these three an extreme debt of gratitude for their service. As I stated at the meeting, just because these three individuals are not on the board, we will still lean on them for their wise counsel and experience when needed. Thank you Miguel, Debra, and Jay.
Our new board members are Vanessa Alexander, Helen Nave, and Susie Prather. Congratulations and welcome. The work is just beginning!
As of this writing, the state legislature is currently in session. We are being extremely diligent in identifying legislation that benefits horse racing and breeding in New Mexico as well as legislation that could potentially cause harm. Rest assured that very little gets past us and we are working very hard, both behind the scenes and publicly, to represent your interests.
COVID-19 numbers are going down, vaccinations are rolling out, and our Governor is gradually easing restrictions on commerce. Let us all hope that things will soon return to some sense of normalcy.
Best wishes to all of you for a successful breeding season. Let’s get those foals on the ground, keep them healthy and may all of your matings result in successful pregnancies. Very little gives us as much hope for the future as seeing healthy foals running around in the fields.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and thanks to you all for your membership and support.
Sincerely,
Tom Goncharoff
