Our Sis was the dam of Going Light. She is reported to be a race winner with
67 starts, but the rest of her race record is unknown. She is reportedly the dam four foals, including race winners Military Sand with four wins in 47 starts and Diesel Sand with six wins in 77 starts.
The sire of Our Sis was Tryster, the
1920 Champion Two-Year-Old Colt with
an undefeated race record that year with six wins in six starts including the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, the Saratoga Special and the Youthful Stakes. He was the only horse in the 11-year history of the three-race series known as the Pimlico Fall Serial Stakes to win all three races. This includes the Pimlico Serial #1 at 6 furlongs. Tryster was the sire of 212 foals with 184 starters, 133 winners and eight stakes horses. They are the earners of $961,652. One of his stakes winners is My Sis, winner of the Harford Stakes and a full sister to Our Sis. One of his sons is Green Wave and he was the sire of Green Flash, the broodmare sire of La Machine, dam of horses like stakes winners Top Machine and Antler’s Trade, as well as War Machine, an AQHA Supreme Champion. Tryster is also the
broodmare sire of Custus Rastus, a stallion known for siring AAA racehorses that went on to be AQHA Champions. They include Ricky Taylor, Custus Sandy, Southern Sea, Jaguar and Milk River, an AQHA Supreme Champion. His daughter Gold Note was the dam of Golden Note, a Co-Champion Two- Year-Old Filly. She was third in the 1961
All American Futurity behind Pokey Bar and Bunny’s Bar Maid. Tryster was sired by Peter Pan by Commando by Domino. Peter Pan was out of Cinderella by Hermit. This gives Going Light a 5x5 breeding pattern to Domino, the great source of speed.
The history of Jean Ann Blair is pretty much unknown. We know that she was unregistered and so no race record exists. When we look at her pedigree, we find
that her sire and dam are closely associated with C. B. Campbell of Minco, Oklahoma. Campbell and his horses will play a key role in our look at Vandy and the Leo cross.
Jean Ann Blair was sired by Joe Blair, a famous racehorse of the day. He raced for 11 years with his most memorable race in his loss to the legendary Pan Zareta in a match race. Pan Zareta set a New World Record for 5 furlongs in :57 1/5 that stood for 32 years. She carried 10 pounds more than Joe Blair. But Joe Blair set his own records when he set a World Record of :39 for 3 furlongs, also at
