The photo on page 208 shows the famous A.B. Green after winning the 1967 Rainbow Derby with Barbara 3. From his Green Pastures Ranch in Purcell, Oklahoma, oilman A.B. Green raised and raced some of Quarter Horse racing’s most influential horses such as AQHA Hall of Fame Inductees Miss Meyers, Barbara L, Go Man Go and Miss Olene. During his career, Green bred the earners of over $1.5 million. In 1947, he purchased Barbara L for $3,500 and raced her for four years before retiring her to his broodmare band. Barbara L went on to produce Miss Olene, who won $31,022 on the track before producing earners of over $700,000 including 2-time Champion Little Blue Sheep. Later, in 1953, Mr. Green purchased Miss Meyers for $6,000, which was a large sum for a mare in those days. Miss Meyers went on to set four New Track Records and was named 1953’s World Cham- pion, Champion Mare and highest-money earning horse. Green also purchased Go Man Go after his freshman season in 1955. He paid $42,000 cash when he bought him from J.B. Ferguson. Go Man Go was AQHA’s World Champion three years in a row from 1955-1957. Go Man Go is the sire
of 7 Champions and the broodmare sire of 5 Champions. 1971 Champion Mr Kid Charge was Green’s top money earner, winning $299,187. Green also bred Kid Meyers, who earned $10,000 on the track and became the world’s first AQHA Supreme Champion. Green was named AQHA’s Lead- ing Breeder by Money Earned in 1971 and was later inducted into the Ruidoso Hall of Fame alongside Kid Meyers. Go Man Go was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 1990 and was followed by Barbara L in 2007, Miss Meyers in 2009 and Miss Olene in 2013. Green was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2014.
