Only a neck kept Dulce Sin Tacha from a perfect record in 2020. The colt won five of his six starts, including the rich Texas Classic Futurity-G1 at Lone Star Park.
Bob and Jerry Gaston of Seguin, Texas, bred and race Dulce Sin Tacha and have had the family for three generations. They bred Miss Sin Tacha, the second dam and a half-sister to World Champion Streakin Sin Tacha, in partnership with Janet VanBebber and raced that graded stakes-placed filly to earnings of $196,578. Prissy Sin Tacha, the dam of Dulce Sin Tacha, ran third in the 2015 Texas Classic Futurity.
While Prissy Sin Tacha could be a handful during her racing career, Bob says that her babies “are as calm as a cucumber.” Trainer Heath Taylor agreed, calling Dulce Sin Tacha “a dream to train, especially for a stud colt.”
Dulce Sin Tacha focused on his job and rarely got distracted. His race record certainly reflects that.
Taylor unveiled Dulce Sin Tacha at Ruidoso Downs, where the colt broke his maiden by 3/4-lengths. He won trials for both the Rainbow Futurity-G1 and All American Futurity-G1, but his times kept him out of the finals.
Instead, Dulce Sin Tacha competed in the All American Juvenile. Bumped early, he came on strong at the end and just missed catching winner Eye Work For You.
Though the Gastons had bred two Texas Classic Futurity winners—Bodacious Dash in 2010 and Valiant Lil Lady in 2012—they had never owned one. Dulce Sin Tacha gave them their very own trophy in the prestigious event.
He scored in his trial by an easy 1 1/2-lengths, qualifying the sixth fastest. Rain turned the Lone Star track sloppy for the final, but that didn’t deter Dulce Sin Tacha.
Fastest-qualifier Instygator went off as the 9-10 favorite. Dulce Sin Tacha, Instygator, and longshot Watch Him B Famous came to the wire together, with Dulce Sin Tacha prevailing by a nose over Instygator. It was just a head back to third-place Watch Him B Famous.
