Disposition and a well-trained horse is something she learned from her dad and his training philosophy. “When my dad sent our horses to the racetrack, he broke all of them,” she said. “They were shocked you could put a saddle on them and ride them. He wouldn’t have a horse you couldn’t do something else with.”
When we look at the race record of Eddie Stinson, we see where the performance factor comes into the picture. He made 20 starts over three years. He won five races with two stakes wins, placed second four times with two stakes placed finishes, and he had four thirds with three of them in stakes races. His first stakes win came in the 2005 JJ’s Shotglass Stakes and his second came in the 2006 Zia Derby-RG2. He placed second in the 2006 Down Side Stakes, and third in the 2006 Jess Burner Memorial Handicap G1, the 2006 New Mexico Classic Cup Championship and the 2007 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes-G2. He was a stakes finalist in three other stakes, and was named the 2007 New Mexico Hi-Point Stallion. He earned $200,016 in his career.
THE PEDIGREE FACTOR
Eddie Stinson is sired by Dash Ta Fame,
a great stallion that fulfilled the criteria of outstanding performance racing against
the best, including the great Corona Chick and Holland Ease. Dash Ta Fame made five starts at two with three wins, a second and
a third, earning $174,197. His wins include the Golden State Futurity-G1, making him
a Grade one stakes winner at two. He made eight starts at three with four wins and two thirds, earning $116,616 and winning the El Primero Del Ano Derby-G1 and the Vandy’s Flash Handicap-G3. His total record stands at 13 starts, seven wins, one second and three thirds with earnings of $290,812.
Dash Ta Fame has certainly proven the criteria of providing athletic ability and speed essential to a sire’s success. He is the sire of 903 racing ROM with 90 stakes winners and 120 stakes placed runners. His leading winner is Gun Battle, who won the Zia Futurity-RG1 and was second in the All American Futurity-G1. Ongoing Ta Fame is the next leading money earner by Dash Ta Fame with wins in races like the Shue Fly Stakes-G1 and Jess Burner Memorial Handicap-G1. Kendall Jackson is next on the list and he won such races as the New
is the one that I have judged everything else against. Her name was Mitey Twisty, and everybody recognized her. She was a beautiful gray mare. She was one of those that everybody knew and loved because, once you saw her, you remembered her.”
The dam of Twistomite and Mitey Twisty was Miss Twisty Bars, a homebred mare by Johnny Bars, who is by Sugar Bars, and out of Figure 8 Missbearcat by Leo. The dam of Miss Twisty Bars is Miss Duddy by Fuddy Duddy and out of Dakota Sugar by Dakota Baldy. Miss Twisty Bars is the dam of nine starters from 14 foals with seven ROM and one stakes winner. The stakes winner is Miss Rocket Twist by Rocket Wrangler, and she won the 1976 G Rollie White Downs Spring Futurity.
Twistomite is the sire of only five AQHA performers with just three starters. Mitey Blu Dandy is the ROM runner that was stakes placed with a third in the 1984 Florida QHA Futurity-G3. He is out of Miss Dandy Chick by Scat Chick.
Luann explained her purchase of Eddie Stinson, “So when we moved out to the ranch and had plenty of space, I decided I wanted to expand my breeding program to have my own stud. So, I went with my mares to different studs for a while to find what
I really liked. Actually, I thought I would like to raise my own stud prospect, but then Eddie came available and I jumped at it.
“We bought him about three years ago from Victory Farms,” she continued. “It looked like Danny Ray was wanting to
get out of the business, and he made him available and we bought him. We had a couple of colts that we had from when we had bred to him and of all the colts we have had out of Dash Ta Fame sons, he puts the best mind on them of any stud out there. He puts a really good mind on them, and I was attracted to that.”
And then she added, “He is the biggest ole Teddy Bear. He is so easy to get along with and that is important to me.”
