Sam Houston Texas Bred Championship
KISS MY ANNEE GL
by John Moorehouse
Kiss My Annee GL entered the company of stakes winners on June 12 at Sam Houston Race Park, outnodding Famous Chief to take
first place in the $106,000 Sam Houston Texas Bred Championship.
Kiss My Annee races for Felix Rodriguez and Sergio Holguin, who purchased the four- year-old gelding for $7,500 in May of 2019.
He scored his second win in three starts this season, winning his most
recent prior race on May 28,
with all those outs coming
in Houston. For his career, Kiss My Annee GL now has five wins in 14 starts, and the $63,600 payday from this event sent his total earnings into six figures at $119,250.
“This is pretty exciting,” Holguin said after the race in a track press release. “For a $7,500 claimer to win
a $100,000 race is really

FDD SCOUT
by Michael Compton
FDD Scout, a homebred son of Champion FDD Dynasty racing for Tom Lipar’s Paragon Farms LLC of Conroe, Texas, overcame a slight
hop and brush at the break to win the 350-yard Ruidoso Juvenile for two year olds at Ruidoso Downs on June 13.
Ridden by Tanner Thedford for trainer Trey Wood and sent to post as the 19-10 favor- ite, FDD Scout defeated 10-1 longshot Spanish Steps by 3/4-length in :17.599. The sorrel gelding posted a 93 speed index from his first career stakes victory.
FDD Scout tipped his hand when he won a 300-yard training race in :15.84 on May 4. The gelding made his career debut with a 3/4-length victory as the 9-5 favorite in his Ruidoso Futurity-G1 trial on May 29, the second of
two days of trials. He posted the 11th-fastest qualifying time and missed by just 1/100th of a second making the Grade 1, $1-million final.
The $44,094 winner’s share of the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile purse boosted FDD Scout’s earnings to $48,894.
something. We like this horse very much and decided to take a chance and it worked out.” Juan Diaz Jr., who sits atop the trainer standings for this Sam Houston meet, added
another big win to his body of work.
Kiss My Annee GL broke on top from
the outside starting gate in the six-horse field, surrendered the lead to L Capone, then made a steady driving finish to regain the
advantage and hit the wire first by a nose.
Jorge Garcia got the call, navigating Kiss My Annee GL over the 400 yards in :20.010 and posting a 104 speed index.
What’s next for this gelding who now is in black type?
Holguin said Kiss My Annee GL would remain
at Sam Houston Race Park and he and Diaz will look
at the stakes schedule for the transferred Retama Park
20-day meet, which begins on June 23. Francisco Javier Garcia bred Kiss My
Annee GL out of two-time winner Grande Annee, a 2003 mare.
Famous Chief (One Famous Eagle-Rockin Regent TB) also closed late and narrowly finished second. CT Racing Stables owns the gelding, an Eric Long trainee who had Bryan Candanosa in the irons.
Diaz also trains Five Bar Silver (Majestic Cartel-Special Menace Miss), the third-place finisher for Carlos Ponce. Victor Urieta, Jr., did the riding.
The remaining order of finish saw early leader L Capone (Capo De Capi-Scoops Victory Pop) fade to fourth, followed by post-time favorite Carry The Memories (Dash Master Jess-Processing Speed) and Air To Em Jess (Dash Master Jess-Processing Speed).

FDD Scout is out of Apollitical Scout, whose four stakes wins from 2016-2019 included the 2016 Ruidoso Juvenile and 2018 Junos Request Stakes-G2 at Remington Park.
FDD Scout’s second dam, the Corona Cartel mare Swingin Cartel, produced stakes winner One Famous Swinger, a half sister
to Apollitical Scout, and Swingit Lika Man, a half brother to Apollitical Scout who ran second in the 2015 Mile High Futurity at Arapahoe Park.
FDD Scout traces back to his third dam, Swingin Alive, a winning daughter of 1981 world champion Special Effort who foaled two- time Grade 1 winner Swingin Val and graded stakes winner and AQHA Dam of Distinction
Swingin Otoole, both of whom are half siblings to Swingin Cartel.
Horton Racing LLC’s Spanish Steps (Tres Seis-Dasha Easy) was second under Francisco Calderon for trainer John Stinebaugh. The gelding finished second in his May 29 trial.
Bacsheesh (FDD Dynasty-Itea) ran third, one length behind FDD Scout,
for owners William E. Smith and Ky Luddington. James Flores rode the geld- ing for trainer Heath Taylor. The gelding finished third in his May 29 trial.
Followed by Ironey (Ivory James-Ms Jingles), Cell Bounce (Corona Cartel-My Famous Lady), Mi Bella Valentina (Corona Cartel-Lasting Episode), Woman In Gold (Mr Jess Perry-Hold Me Now) and Yardhouse (Favorite Cartel-Ruths Chris). Eagle Tempted Dash & Rainbow To Roses scratched.
