Premio Mexico Derby
EASY PERRY CARTEL

This race was for three year olds who did
not qualify for the final of the Mexico Derby and whose owners paid a registration of $20,000 pesos to participate. Seven horses met the requirement and were presented on June 13, seeking to capture the main part of the purse that amounted to $199,300 pesos (approx. $9,959 U.S.). It should be mentioned that there was no consolation race for the Mexico Derby.
Easy Perry Cartel, Dance Saqqara and Bonny Eagle, who came in first, second and third place, respectively, in the recent Mexican Breeders Derby Challenge, were part of this attractive group.
Departing inward, Phenomenal Kool (#3) hit Dance Saqqara (#2), disturbing him at the break; however, they all applied their energy to reach the goal with the assistance of their respec- tive riders. It was the colt Easy Perry Cartel (#6) who soon began to dominate on the difficult track reported as “good”. Assisted by Paul Osvaldo Rodríguez García, he had no problem subduing Phenomenal Kool and Dance Saqqara who, near the inner rail, displayed their speed.
The judges disqualified Phenomenal
Kool from second place and promoted Dance Saqqara for the incident committed at the start of the race.
Easy Perry Cartel ran
the course in :15.00, which translates into a 95 speed index, thus adding the
third win to his record in
11 outings to the track, of which he has also obtained three seconds and two
third places, including the aforementioned Mexican Breeders Derby Challenge. His earnings figure increased to 1,671,280 pesos.
Bred by Everardo Múzquiz Elguezábal, the winner is a son of Jesstified and out of Tessas Decked Out (by Corona Cartel), and belongs to the Cuadra San Lorenzo and is trained by Alberto Fernández Pasten.
The award ceremony was headed by Javier Rosique León, President of the Mexican Quarter Horse Association of Breeders and Horsemen, and by Mr. Guillermo Roel, owner of the Cuadra San Lorenzo, accompanied by his wife.
Dance Saqqara (Jesstified-Saqqara) took second place under Alejandro Gómez Díaz. She is owned by Cuadra A.B. and was trained by Fermín Uriarte Salas.
The colt Phenomenal Kool (A Phenomenal Jess-Kool Kool Lady) was disqualified from second to third place. He was rid-
den by Heriberto Camacho Sotelo for owner Cuadra Los Arrallanes and trainer Luis Eduardo Flores Gómez.
Speed N Eagle (Jabuti Eagle SA-Speednchico), Bonny Eagle (Jabuti Eagle SA-Bonny Wee Thing), GS
Centella (BBS Top Beduino-Fisherwoman) and BR Estelar Dash (Southern Corona-The Icy Queen) completed the order of finish.
