Javier Rosique Palavicini Classic
BRABUS
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
The classic in honor of the late Don Javier Rosique Palavicini, breeder and owner of Quarter Horses, saw a field of only five horses. The distance was 300 yards and the purse
to be distributed reached $277,400 pesos ($13,862 U.S. approx.).
Being the first race on the card, the horses had to face a muddy track as a
result of the rain that fell the night before. However, some of them performed with considerable class, especially Brabus. The gelding broke on top and increased the dif- ference against his rivals in each stride. He crossed the finish line 1 1/2-lengths in front of Hiclass Patriot - his closest pursuer – in :14.87 for a 100 speed index under the direc- tion of Rosalino Alcudia.
After the victory, Mr. José Gómez, owner of Brabus, received the respective awards
in the winner’s circle from Javier Rosique
León, son of the honoree and current President of the Mexican Quarter Horse Breeders and Horsemen Association, a subsidiary
of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Bred in the United
States by Chrissema Horses
LLC, Brabus is a son of
Ivory James and out of No
Ordinary Dash by Royal
Quick Dash, and at eight
years of age looks in excellent sporting form. His current record is 4-3-4 in 13 outings
on the track, with earnings of $45,736, including $6,931 from the Javier Rosique Palavicini Classic; the aforementioned statis- tic includes a first place in the Speed Classic on March 7.
Brabus runs on behalf
of Cuadra 2 Marias and was trained by Fermin Uriarte Salas.
At seven years of age,
the mare Hiclass Patriot (Jet Black Patriot-Hiclass Quick) placed second under the com- mand of Mario Alberto López Marmolejo. She belongs to the Cuadra Los Gavilanes, where she is trained by Rubén Romo García.
Third place went to Carters Calyx (Carters Cartel-Confidential Run), with
her jockey Heriberto Camacho Sotelo. She is owned by the Cuadra Los Arrallanes and was trained by Luis Eduardo Flores Gómez.
Sea Mighty (Sea Horse Corona-Mighty Zoom) and Tetris B (Fast Prize Dash-Diva Eleanor) completed the order of finish.
