second dam is graded stakes-placed Bottoms Up Jet, a half-sister to AQHA Hall of Fame horse Streakin La Jolla.
On the racetrack, RC Me Leaving You
did his fair share of leaving rivals in his wake, having won seven of 31 lifetime starts, with four of them stakes competition including
twice in the B.F. Phillips Jr. Handicap-RG3
and twice in the Nevill Document Solutions Stakes. He also finished second in the Sam Houston Championship Challenge Stakes-G2, Miami-Dade County Stakes, and Live Oak Handicap. And, he was third in the Texas Classic Derby-G1, Sam Houston Classic-G2, and Hialeah Maturity. In addition to his seven victories, RC Me Leaving You placed in 15 others, eight of them stakes events. Among
the top runners he bested on the track include World Champion JRC Callas First and Mighty Corona. He retired with earnings of $209,748 and stood the 2021 season at Delta Equine Center as the property of Bennie and Terri Jeter.
THE MARFA LIGHTS
(One Famous Eagle-Your First Moon, First Down Dash)
Stands at Lazy E Ranch
2021 Fee: $2,000
Hailing from a family rich in black-type, The Marfa Lights has every right to be a productive stallion. By One Famous Eagle, a Champion on the racetrack and a multiple World Champion sire, The Marfa Lights is produced from Your First Moon, an AQHA Dam of Distinction as well as a Champion 2 Year Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Filly on the racetrack. Your First Moon is the dam of 10 winners, making
The Marfa Lights a half-brother to four-time Champion Moonist (by Separatist), and a full brother to Champion Moonin The Eagle. His mare has also foaled stakes winners Jess My

Moon (by Mr Jess Perry) and Stray Cat (by Thoroughbred stallion Storm Cat).
Standing at Lazy E Ranch as the property
of Mike and Beth Harper, The Marfa Lights showed on the racetrack that he has the talent to match his strong pedigree.
At two, he won two of his five starts— winning his trials for both the All American Futurity and the Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. He went on to finish second in the $3,000,000 All American Futurity-G1, where he was defeated by that year’s Champion Two Year Old Imperial Eagle. All told in his juvenile season, The Marfa Lights banked $455,860. Continuing to race at three and four, The Marfa Lights was fourth in the All American Derby-G1 and finished his career on the track with $566,493 banked.
“He’s been extremely popular,” noted Wise. “He’s been booked full every year. He’s probably going to have bred 400 mares in his first three years. The reason you know you’ve got a hit on your hands with a young horse is when they (breeders) have one by him nursing, and they are back here to breed again. Obviously, what they saw, they liked.
“His horses are very correct,” Wise added. They have size, substance, and they are tremendous. Almost everybody will tell you, they have great big hind legs, and they are all really, really, pretty. He’s not a mare-specific horse. Big, little, wide, thin, he improves all the mares. They don’t dominate him. He dominates them.”
By the sounds of it, this year’s stallions
with first-crop yearlings appear to be off to an encouraging start in their breeding careers. A year from now, those most successful in passing along their most desirable characteristics in siring elite athletes will be contending for the coveted crown of Leading Freshman Sire of 2022. Stay tuned.
