Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2
DOUBLE DOWN 123
by Tracy Gantz
If you want to win the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity-G2 at Los Alamitos, partner with Randy Young, buy a yearling filly, and put Monty
Arrossa in charge of training. That formula has now succeeded for three consecutive years.
With Dennis Jensen, Young won the 2021 Futurity with Fire Fast Honey and the 2022 edition with Valiantli. This year Young and Taos River Ranch LLC won the $275,900 race with Double Down 123 on May 14.
“I’ve been blessed with these good horses and good partners,” said Young.
Second in her racing debut, Double Down 123 finished fourth in her trial for the Kindergarten Futurity, just making the qualifying list with the last clocking.
“In the trials we didn’t get much of a good break,” said Armando Cervantes, who has ridden Double Down 123 in all three of her races. “She was closing in, so I thought that if she broke that we would have a good shot in the race. That’s what she did.”
