Beehive Futurity
KALEIGH MAC

Kaleigh Mac, a chestnut daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Texas Icon racing for Savana C. Canales, sprinted to a 1/2-length
win in the $53,422 Beehive Futurity for juveniles sired by participating stallions at Weber Downs in Ogden, Utah, on April 30.
Ridden by Julio de la Torre, Kaleigh Mac went 300 yards in :15.705 while posting a 94 speed index. Sergio Canales trained the filly, who earned the $22,437 winner’s share of the purse from her first stakes score.
The seventh-fastest qualifier, Kaleigh Mac made her official career debut with a 3/4-length victory in one of five Beehive Futurity trials on April 15. The filly has won both of her outs and has banked $23,687.

In just the second start of his sophomore season, Pappacito ran away from his eight rivals to score an emphatic victory in the $108,615 Old South Derby at Delta Downs on May 19.
Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, Pappacito broke alertly from post position No. 3 and was out of the gates on top and grabbed command early in the 350-yard dash.
He stretched his advantage to 2-lengths in the lane and won the
race with authority by 1
1/4-lengths in the end.
In notching the first stakes win of his career, Pappacito, the odds-on favorite in the race and the fastest qualifier from the April 28 trials, stopped the timer in :17.617 and earned a speed index of 91.
Owned by Robin L. Redding and trained by Heath Taylor, Pappacito is

Kaleigh Mac is a full sister to 2017 Arizona QRA President’s Fall Futurity winner Jazzy Icon. The filly’s second dam, the winning homebred Hawkinson mare Red Hawk Chick, ran third
in the 2007 Desert Classic Futurity at Turf Paradise. A 2005 foal, Red Hawk Chick foaled three stakes winners, all of whom were half siblings to Icebreaker, including multiple stakes winner Red Hawk Cartel, and stakes winner Yanque. Kaleigh Mac traces back to her third dam, Chicks Tell, a stakes-winning Chicks Beduino mare who produced Tell Cartel, a half-brother to Red Hawk Chick.

Bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, the gray three-year-old gelding is produced from the Apollitical Jess mare Apolitical Pac, a winner of four races and a finalist in four stakes evens with $76,502 in earnings.
Runner-up PK Pure Rogue (Heza Fast Rogue-Kinky Boots), with
jockey Ubaldo Luna aboard, turned in a solid effort to finish second for owner Jose Rodriguez and trainer Dustin Rhodes. Earlier in the season, PK Pure Rogue finished second in the Mardi Gras Derby at Louisiana Downs prior to winning his trial dash for the Old South Derby. The multiple stakes-placed bay gelding was bred in Louisiana by Phatt Kat Ranch.
Charley Jr Dynasty (Jr Dynasty Mountain- Josie Bassett), the ninth-fastest qualifier, ran second while pocketing the $9,082 runner-up share of the purse for his owner Chris Nebeker. Uriel Dominguez rode the homebred gelding for trainer Kylie Valenzuela.
Fastest qualifier Coronas With One S (Kvn Corona-Melisa With One S) ran third, three-quarters of a length from Kaleigh Mac, and banked $6,411 for his owner Michael K. Mckell. Jesus Canales rode the gelding for trainer Sergio Canales.
Bella Lady (Rip Tide-Masons Moon)
ran fourth and was followed by Chile Cartel (Five Bar Cartel-Dinastia Rose), Cartel Night (Five Bar Cartel-Night Lines), Jr Sakes Alive (Pappasito-Jr Mahalia), Favorite Pyc (Tarzanito- Sheza Dashin Diva), and Cantinera (Pappasito- James Diva). Of Interest was scratched.

JJ Freight Star (Freighttrain B-Jess A Little Star) and jockey Guadalupe Lucio Jr. checked in third in an even effort for owner Jorge Alan Bazaldua and trainer Xavier Scott. The gray gelding, a three-time winner, finished second in his trial heat and was seventh in the Mardi Gras Derby prior to that outing. He was bred in Louisiana by J & Stables LLC.
