Joe Merrick Podcast on StallioneSearch
First-time author Joe Merrick, son of AQHA Hall of Fame owner-trainer-breeder Walter Merrick, was the focus of episode 32 of the StallioneSearch.com QH Racing Talk podcast on May 12. Merrick wrote a book chronicling the two-year-old racing season
of 1969 All American Futurity winner and AQHA Hall of Fame horse Easy Jet (Jet Deck-Lena’s Bar TB, Three Bars). Bred, owned, and trained by Walter Merrick, Easy Jet was the 1969 World Champion and
a 9-time Champion sire, including 1975 World Champion Easy Date. Easy Jet won 27 of 38 starts and earned $445,723. In
his freshman season, he saw 22 wins from
26 starts, including nine stakes victories.

Indiana Youth Experience Set For June 24
Youth aged 16-18 interested in learning about the racing industry have an opportunity through the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) on their June 24 Youth Day Experience. The all-day event will be
held at Horseshoe Indianapolis in Shelbyville, Indiana. QHRAI directors and horsemen will host the youth over the day, which includes experience on the backside and management sides of racing, as well as a card of races. Participants will be eligible for potential college or trade school scholarship earnings.
Paul Martin Passes Away
Eagle Sales Award many times, and retired as District Manager. He was president
of the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana and was inducted into the Indiana Quarter Horse Hall of Fame
for his work as a trainer. He saddled 79 winners, was ranked as a leading trainer by earnings in 2019 and 2020 and trained the earners of more than $2.1 million. Among histop trainees were 5-time stakes winner WH Design By Dash ($436,808) and 4-time stakes winner HH C J Shake ($357,032). Paul is survived by his wife Julia of 46 years, two children, two grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.

He was the East Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Colt and the East Hi-Point Aged Stallion with wins in the Scoopies Leaving You Stakes, Flying Breed Stakes and LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational.
