    A Broodmare Pedigree
What kind of a pedigree should a “Broodmare of the Year” have? Let’s see
what kind, and we will start with her
sire and broodmare sire working our way through the female family to see how it all came together.
Crazy Down Corona was sired by First Down Dash and she is out of Crazy About Corona by Corona Cartel. When we see these two stallions together in the pedigree, we see the #1 and #2 All-Time Leading Sires of Money Earners. But then we look at the success of these two stallions as broodmare sires, we see First Down Dash is the #1 Leading Broodmare Sire with earnings of over $130 million and Corona Cartel is the #3 All Time Leading Broodmare Sire with earnings of over $83 million.
The power of First Down Dash and Corona Cartel as broodmare sires is reinforced by their dams as we always say a good broodmare sire comes from a good dam. These two stallions certainly prove that point.
The dam of First Down Dash is First Prize Rose, a daughter of Gallant Jet and she was out of Rose Bug by Lady Bug’s Moon. First Prize Rose was a stakes placed runner with a second in the Three Bars Handicap and the Sunland Park Fall Derby. She was the dam of seven starters with seven ROM and two stakes winners. Her stakes winners are the World Champion First Down Dash and First A Rose, winner of the QHBC Sophomore Classic-G2. First Prize Dash, a race winning daughter of First Prize Rose reinforced the power of this family as an AQHA Dam of Distinction. She is the dam of five stakes winners in First Prize Leeza, First Carolina, First Prize Robin, Fast First Prize and Heza Fast Dash.
Corona Cartel, the broodmare sire
of Crazy Down Corona, was sired by Holland Ease, a son of First Down Dash, and his dam was Corona Chick by Chicks Beduino. Corona Chick was a multiple AQHA Racing Champion and the dam of
