SPEEDHORSE PHOTO ARCHIVE ANSWER
The photo on page 191 shows Lion Charge (Super Charge-Leo’s Queen Bee, Leo) after winning the 1969 Louisiana Breeders Futurity. The gelding was ridden by Lane P. Suire for owner C.T. Fuller and trainer Lee Young.
Bred by Peltier Harvey Jr., Lion Charge is sired by 1953 Champion Super Charge and out of 2-time winner Leo’s Queen Bee. He is also a half- brother to stakes winner Lion Queen, who set a New Track Record for 330 yards in 1974.
Lion Charge began his career on the track as
a two year old and raced until he was eight years old. During that time, he made an impressive 60 starts with 22 victories, 11 seconds, and 9 thirds.
In addition to the Louisiana Breeders Futurity, he also won the 1970 Louisiana Breeders Derby, 1971 Evangeline Downs Championship #1 2nd Division (where he set a New Track Record for 300 yards), 1972 Evangeline Downs Championship #2 1st Di- vision, 1973 Evangeline Downs Championship #3 2nd Division. Lion Charge retired from the track in 1975 with $78,133 banked.
The 2021 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity- G1 was won by Blood Money on Dec. 18. The colt was ridden by Everardo Rodriguez for owner Rojas Racing Stables LLC and trainer Rosendo Valdez Jr.
PBRIP Payouts to Top $100K in 2022!
Are you ready to race for your share of $100,000? There has never been a better time to join the Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program (PBRIP).
Annual payouts are projected to hit record levels thanks to the Texas Paint Horse Breeders Association (TPHBA) which added $25,000 to the 2022 PBRIP Sweepstakes, including a $5,000 Texas-bred incentive paid to the top 10 fastest times of any Texas-foaled horse.
TPHBA also added $28,000 to PBRIP races throughout Texas including events in Amarillo, Cleburne, Fort Worth, Marshall, Waco and San Antonio. To be eligible for the Texas-bred incentives, TPHBA membership and accreditation are required. Email lex@tphba.com for more information.
Lazy E to Host the 2021 PBRIP Year-End Awards Ceremony April 11
Don’t miss the PRBIP year-end awards ceremony on April 11 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla. The high-point winner receives a Gist Silversmiths trophy buckle. Champions in each division receive a KO Trading Saddle along with a cash prize. Runner-up awards include buckles, breast collars, bell boots, spurs and reins. Stay tuned for complete details.
