Randy and Sue found themselves with
a successful barrel racer that was just beginning his breeding career. His first foals entered the world in 2005, the year he qualified for the NFR. They started by standing Blazin Jetolena themselves and then they stood him at several places. Then Jeff and Andrea Busby entered the picture.
Andrea started her part of the story
this way, “I have always run barrels, so when Jeff and I got married in 2010, I had some barrel horses and we bought some barrel horses. I had watched Jet run as a futurity horse and he was amazing! Then he kind of fell off the radar for a few years, as many stallions do in between their performance years and until their colts
hit the arena. But we loved him as a futurity horse.”
The search for barrel prospects took them to Canada, “Jeff and I went to see Grant Little in Alberta, Canada,” Andrea said. “He had bred some really nice horses over the years. He had, I think it was, six or eight fillies all together. There were
two out of the great mare Lady Perks that we ended up buying and they were both by Blazin Jetolena. As the story goes,
Jeff liked one and I liked the other one better. We bought both, but we actually bought a package of colts and that was the beginning of our breeding program.
“Randy brought Jet here while they were changing stallion stations at the time, and Randy said, ‘Keep him legged up.’ So, I rode him a few times,” she continued. “We mentioned to Randy then that if he was interested in selling him, we would be interested. Ryan Lovendahl was working for us at the time, and he obviously came

up in conversation. It didn’t happen at that time, but eight months to a year went by, and we flew out to Tucson. That was
a year before Christy Loflin and Sheza Blazin Move, his daughter, went to the NFR. We had seen that horse and so we flew out to meet personally with Randy and Sue. And we bought him.”
A UNIQUE PEDIGREE
When we look at the pedigree of Blazin Jetolena, we see some familiar barrel racing bloodlines. We see horses like Sugar Bars and Jet of Honor that have been successful in barrel racing, but then we see some different bloodlines that make the pedigree of this horse unique.
We will start with Lenas Sugar Daddy,
the sire of Blazin Jetolena and a son of Doc O’Lena. Lenas Sugar Daddy was bred by Shorty Freeman and owned by Wayland and Elaine Heatley of Marana, Arizona. He must have recovered enough from his injury to become
an AQHA point earner in Heeling, with two points. He became the sire of 15 performers
in the AQHA with seven point and/or money earners that earned 103 points with earnings of $58,922.94 in the Barrel Futurities of America, National Cutting Horse Association, National Reining Horse Association, and National Reined Cow Horse Association. His leading point earner is Tsunami Lena with 69 AQHA points and performance ROM’s in the open and amateur divisions. She has earned $18,970.43 in the NRCHA.
When we look at the point and money earners for Lenas Sugar Daddy, we see that
Jet Of Honor is the sire of over $2.1 million in barrel earners.
