Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1
SCOOPS DYNASTY

The Idaho-Los Alamitos connection is a strong one, as many horses produced in
that Pacific Northwest state run well at the Southern California racetrack. Scoops Dynasty continued the link by winning the Feb. 19 Los Alamitos Winter Derby-G1 and giving owners/ breeders Edward and Von Zae McNelis of Nampa, Idaho, their first Grade 1 victory.
Not only did Edward McNelis accept the trophy in person, he was able to experience that first Grade 1 in front of a lot of his friends.
“I’m numb,” he said. “This is my first Grade 1 and it’s really, really good. It blows my mind. It’s a lot of work to get here. I’m getting a lot of phone calls and it couldn’t be better.”
Scoops Dynasty went off as the favorite
in the 400-yard Los Alamitos Winter Derby under jockey Armando Cervantes. The gelding broke on top from post 3 in very good order and held the lead throughout, dueling with Corona Yo on the rail. Scoops Dynasty kept to
